J-Stylz was born in Chattanooga, TN and raised in Charlotte, NC. J-Stylz's musical talent was discovered initially when he was helping his mom, who was the choir director at church. J-Stylz began playing the drums and the piano at the age of ten. While attending North Mecklenburg H.S., Stylz joined the sleek five man gospel singing group named Soothing Touch.
In 2000, J-Stylz met and auditioned for the world distinguished music producer, Teddy Riley. In 2004, J-Stylz signed to TRXperience for a few years as a writer and producer. He worked alongside the publishing company’s founder Teddy Riley to write, produce, and record the latest BS2 album. At the end of 2004, Teddy invited Stylz to become the newest member of the highly acclaimed Grammy award winning group, BlackStreet that consisted of Teddy Riley, Eric Williams, Mark Middleton and J-Stylz himself. In 2006, the group's members consisted of Teddy Riley, Chauncey Black, Quinn and J-Stylz. In 2011/2012 the group's members changed to Teddy Riley, Dave Hollister, Lenny Harold, Tony Tyler and J-Stylz. Approximately in 2014, BS2 became a reprise of BlackStreet. The members consisted of Teddy Riley, J-Stylz, Lenny Harold and featured Dave Hollister. In 2015, BS2 members consisted of Teddy Riley, Dave Hollister, Rodney Poe and J-Stylz.
A multitude of opportunities released J-Stylz into writing songs for nationally renowned artists which includes Keith Sweat, Slim of 112, Bobby Jones, the Japanese super group Full of Harmony and a host of independent artists across the globe. In 2009 along with his business partners, Stylz formed his first recording studio - Power Out Recording Studios in Charlotte, NC. In 2015, J-Stylz created his own production company - Starglobe Media™.
Blessed as a musical producer, songwriter and recording engineer, J-Stylz has released a number of projects. J-Stylz debuted his very first self-recorded single and video in December 2017 - "Christmas Without You". This single was written and produced by J-Stylz and it reached the top 30 on iTunes in 2020. J-Stylz has two other Christmas singles "It’s Christmas" with rap artist J-Mar and "You’re All I Want for Christmas".
J-Stylz partnered with J-Mar to form "Freedom Park". In 2016, they released the acclaimed single "Cry For Peace" which speaks to the current state of affairs globally. In 2017, Freedom Park performed "Cry For Peace" at The United Nations in NYC. J-Stylz started on his debut album "Black Diary" which appeals to generations both new and old. The first single was released in 2020 entitled "Henny Conversations" produced and written by Stylz. It appeals to the new generation of 2019 by capturing the essence of R&B and pop through heartfelt lyrics inspired from a compilation of previous relationships, love & lust, mixed with the upbeat tempo of records that you would hear on today’s current charts or in a club. The single features rap artist Kasinova The Don. Early 2021, J-Stylz was featured on the chart topping single entitled "I Do" by Trinidadian Machel Montanto who is also known as "The King Of Soca". Teddy Riley was also featured on the song which is on Machel's wedding album written by J Sol. In 2022, J-Stylz wrote and co-produced the single "Dollz and Dollaz" for artist Samu-El featuring Petey Pablo and Stylz himself.
Currently, Stylz runs a recording studio in Charlotte, North Carolina named “EQ Studios”. Along with touring, J-Stylz is working on multiple projects which includes being a brand ambassador for Pulse Vodka, an upcoming podcast and providing vocal training for upcoming & inspiring artists of all ages.
